Maths in Eagles by Zara & Maddie

What we do in Eagles maths

Morning Maths

We start our maths lesson as Eagles with a warm up or in other words four questions that gets our brains working. Normally these questions include plus, minus, multiplication and division. Then we have the fun of a 'thunk of the day'. I really enjoy it because it's interesting  to see what other people think and why. What we do is we take tricky questions and get our crew's opinions as well as explaining why we think so. Here are some examples ...

1. Can you cast a shadow into a dark room?
2. Is a wooden table still a tree?
3. Is marmite nice - yes or no?
4. Can you choose who to love? Can you choose not to love someone?
5. What colour is Tuesday?

After this, we take part in 'Fluent in Five' where we answer 6 arithmetic questions in 5 minutes to make our brains stronger and smarter.

Then we move to the carpet and learn about the next unit of maths.  We spend some time practising different questions and help each other before starting our learning independently.

Here is how we use the short method (bus stop) for division.

At the end of the lesson, we go through our answers and then in the next lesson we correct any errors as mistakes make our brain grow.

Countdown to Camp by Mati & Jake

                                                                                                                                                                   Count down to camp!
Hello everybody, this is Jake and Mati from Eagles crew! As you may know, Year 6 is the conclusion of primary school therefore, over the course of this year, we will be informing you all about our intriguing countdown to camp.

Fundraising

Unfortunately, the bus to camp isn't going to be cheap in fact, it might over £1,100 which means we need to work hard to make plenty of money to get us to camp! Due to the fact we have a very small class, it means we need to work twice as hard than previous years. So far this year we have organised ...
- a car wash
- a book sale
- refreshments at parents evening

We are planning to do ...
- a teddy sale
- a meal for the parents
- a cake sale

 OUR BOOK SALE

YEAR SIX  MEAL

Our year six meal is when everyone has left school and we invite our parents to have a delicious meal that we make ourselves and buy the ingredients our-self. Each year we base the meal on different countries: for example France, Greece, Italy, England. But we are doing Mexican style this year. We will be serving Mexican food and we will be providing entertainment in-between courses: a dance, a quiz and perhaps some drama.

WHAT WE'VE RAISED SO FAR AND HOW WE RAISED IT!

So far this year, we have raised a massive £470 and only from three fundraisers. For our first one, we hosted a car wash and refreshments during parents evening. We only did two evenings but we managed to raise a whopping £215. For World Book Day, we hosted a book sale and managed to sale approximately 100 books and raised about £100.  Only recently, we held another car wash and refreshments raising over £150.

History in Eagles by Janea & Faith

Hello! Welcome to History in Eagles

We are learning about the Maya civilisation.

When they were around?

The Maya period started around 1800BC and ended around 1500AD.

Where in the world?

More than 2,300 years ago, the ancient Maya lived in North America and settled in Central America.

Who were they?

They were quite a sophisticated bunch. They developed a writing and number system, studied and created complex calendars. They also skillfully farmed their land and created a complex political system.

The Maya believed in gods. A god named Kukulan, gave the Mayans cocoa pods which when grounded,  mixed with warm water and chilly peppers makes the gods' favourite drink. To launch our     history project, we made chocolate truffles since the Mayans were the first people to have chocolate in their diet. We covered the truffles in cocoa powder and icing sugar.

We also created boxes to store our chocolates in.

Day to day life of an Eagle by Max & Bradley

Day in the life of an Eagle

The life of  an Eagle is an experience to cherish for eternity. In the morning, Miss Dace always has a cheerful smile to greet us; expects us to be ready and have a growth mindset.  After that, we have to power up our brains with securing skills and handwriting for the lessons. Learning is an important part of an Eagles Crew life otherwise we can't have the strongest brains to do well in our lives.

After a lesson, we have collective worship, which a teacher or Mrs Martin (the head mistress) leads and they usually use a story from the Bible to spread a message to help others overcome problems.

Break is the best thing in the morning as you get some air to refill blood cells and enjoy time with our friends.

After play, we have English or maths: it energises our brain.

Then, it's lunch but normally we are one of the last in for lunch because the younger children can't wait as long as we can.

After that, we do reading or P.S.H.E. Finally, we finish off with any of the following lessons P.E, forest school, computing, history or geography.

                                                                  Our leavers hoodies

Eagles Design and Technology by Tommy & Sam

D.T

In Eagles Crew

In D.T. (Design and Technology), we have made successful moon buggies and delicious flavoured bread.

Moon Buggies

In the autumn of 2022, we made some moon buggies which was really hard because we had to measure accurately. With the moon buggies, we had to cut wood into different shapes and sizes. We also had to name our moon buggies and decorate them. As well as that, we all had to add a motor (which would power the whole moon buggy), batteries and make our own switch with split pins, paper clip, wire and wood. Next, we had a race with them. It was very exhilarating and this project helped us make stronger bonds.

Making Bread

We also made bread which was fun as we tested bread by eating it and then made our own. We also got to choose our own toppings which could be sweet or savory. Making the mixture, we split it into groups of three then added our toppings. After that, we shaped it, put it into the oven and waited for it to cook. Finally, when it came out the oven, we got to eat it.

P.E.P. by George & Gracie

                                                               P.E.P

Hi welcome to Eagles crew! Today we are going to be talking about the wonderful experience that we have in P.E.P. It is an incredible time for us as year 6 and for the younger children. We do it once every four weeks due to the year 5 being trained as well.

WHAT DOES P.E.P. STAND FOR?

It stands for positive energetic play.

WHAT IS P.E.P. ?

In P.E.P. we play games with the small children in the key stage 1 playground. We try to be fair in what games they play by voting. Whilst doing P.E.P., we always try to fit in more than one game so people don't argue if they don't get to play the game they want. In P.E.P. we have different people every time yet it can only be key stage 1.

Forest School by Hugh & George

Forest school

As you probably know it was pancake day on Tuesday the 21st of February so, guess what we did?

We made pancakes on an open fire in the forest. So, what do you think is the best topping for your pancake?

Here are our opinions.

We always play a game before the 'main opportunity' which on that day was flipping pancakes (bendy whiteboards) on to pans (plastic tennis rackets) in the rain which we found really hard since we all couldn't flip them and we all just got really wet.  Then we moved on to the main opportunity which started with the class making the pancake batter out of flour, milk and eggs beaten together to make a basic batter which we cooked on a open fire which was so much better than your average stove. I flipped one and I actually landed it! I had honey and sugar on it and it was yummy!

Here is some of our favorite forest school sessions ...

P.E In Eagles Crew by James & Eddie

P.E
In Eagles Crew!

We are going to be talking about our P.E sessions this year in Eagles Crew.
We have had a lot of fun in P.E this year (so far).

HOCKEY:

In Term 1, we learnt how to play hockey.
This was very fun as (pretty much) every week we played an exhilarating, close-scoring game.
To start every session, we either did a passing, tackling or dribbling drill.
Over this seven week period all of Eagles became the best we could be!

RUGBY:

In Term 2, we learnt how to play rugby.
Learning how to pass and run with the ball, we played high standard matches.
Since you can only pass backwards in rugby, we would get into a team of four and run forward passing the ball backwards to your chosen teammates.
Adding pressure, we placed defenders trying to win the ball off of us.

BASKETBALL:

In Term 3, we learnt how to play basketball.
To start every session, we each grabbed a ball out of the bag and we then dribbled the ball around the playground avoiding each other.
Every session we played a game. One of the basketball games that we played was full of the most confident playing one and less confident playing the other.
Every session there would be close low scoring games because the defence was so good.

Thank you for reading our blog we hoped you enjoyed it.

VIP Monday in Eagles Crew by Lincoln

What we do in VIP Monday By Lincoln

VIP Monday is where we get invited to spend some time with Mrs Martin in her office.

It's exciting on some Mondays because we might get a letter.  When we open the envelope, it is an invitation to VIP Monday and tells us what we did well. Reasons could be that we've improved in reading, increasing the pace of our learning, confidently to visitors, quality handwriting & accurate spelling, persevering with maths, etc.

When it's playtime, we go down to Mrs Martin's office and she makes us hot chocolate and let's us choose biscuits too.☕๐Ÿช  We also can have small marshmallows in the hot chocolate. When you drink the hot chocolate it's like heaven in your mouth that you just want to have more. You can talk to Mrs Martin while having your hot chocolate and she likes to find out about what we've been up to. When you eat the biscuits, you will have the delicious chocolate in your mouth. Sometimes you can be late back to class because you can be talking a little too much!

The experience overall is lovely and exciting because we get hot chocolate and biscuits and we get to chat.

When we finish, Mrs Martin or us will put the cups in the sink and we grab our stuff ready to go back. But VIP Monday is only for Eagles not other classes.
